Supporting the Kidney Cancer Association
HONORING THE LIFE OF DAVE JONES
Hello everyone, I am Sarah Jacobson, the daughter of Dave Jones. While I don’t work at the company, my husband Jeff has been with the business for 23 years. I have dedicated my life to being a private in-home caregiver for the elderly. I also recently retired my in-home childcare after 25 years.
As most of you know, my dad built this company from the ground up and loved his community deeply-it’s a legacy that continues to strongly inspire us all.
This month is Kidney Cancer awareness month, which holds a special meaning for our family. I was recently honored to be asked to serve as a Kidney Cancer Association regional event ambassador, helping to raise awareness and support for those affected by kidney cancer- a cause that is now very close to my heart.
Today is March 4th, and it marks one year since i lost my dad to a rare and aggressive from of kidney cancer called collecting duct renal cell carcinoma. He was diagnosed in March of 2024.
My dad was strong, loving, funny and most of all, steady. He was the kind of man who showed up-for his family, for his friends, and for his community.
When he got sick, he fought with all he had. But, the truth is, with rare cancers like this, the fight is incredibly hard. There are limited treatment options, limited research, and far to few answers. This leaves families like mine left wishing there would have been more that could have been done. A feeling I will now carry the rest of my life.
This is why I am here today. Not just to honor my dad and the life he lived, but to create hope for the families who will face this in the future. By supporting the Kidney Cancer Association, we are investing in research education and awareness-the things that can lead to earlier detection, better treatments, and someday-cures.
My dad didn’t get enough time, but maybe, with your help, someone else’s loved one will.
So today, I ask you to give what you can- in honor of those we’ve lost, in support of those still fighting, and in hope for a future with better outcomes and more time.
Thank you for being here today. Thank you for caring. Thank you for helping me keep my dads love and legacy alive. It means more than you will ever know.
What Is Kidney Cancer?
Kidney cancer occurs when healthy cells in the kidneys begin to grow uncontrollably, forming a tumor. The most common form is renal cell carcinoma (RCC), but there are several subtypes — each with its own characteristics and challenges.
Dave was diagnosed with collecting duct renal cell carcinoma (CDRCC), a rare and aggressive subtype that accounts for less than 1% of all kidney cancer cases. CDRCC develops in the kidney’s collecting ducts, which help drain urine into the ureter. Because this form of cancer often grows quickly and may not cause early symptoms, it is frequently diagnosed at a later stage, making treatment more complex.
Symptoms of kidney cancer can include blood in the urine, persistent back or flank pain, fatigue, or unexplained weight loss — though many people experience no symptoms until the disease has progressed.
