Apprenticeship
Registered Apprenticeships
A post-secondary education like a college or university, but with a BIG difference! Apprentices learn a portion of their skills in a traditional classroom. However, on-the-job training while working towards a career is most of the program. Apprentices must be employed with and sponsored by an Approved Trainer, such as Dave Jones, to attend school.

All registered apprentices start as laborers in the field. This gives you the opportunity to learn more about what the career is about and also what your average day on the job would look like. Interviews with candidates are conducted twice a year to select individuals to enter the apprenticeship program. To be considered for an apprenticeship, please visit our careers page so you can apply for the laborer position you’re most interested in today!
Youth Apprenticeships
Youth apprenticeships are available to high school juniors and seniors. An employer like Dave Jones will hire them for a one year, or two-year apprenticeship. During the program, the student continues toward high school graduation and takes courses related to the profession, while gaining real on-the-job experience with the employer as well.
In the time it takes to get a 4-year degree, you could be years into an apprenticeship with steady pay. What’s more, you’ll have career advancement opportunities, job security, and no college debt. If you have a hard time picturing yourself working indoors year-round, or sitting behind a desk, a career in the trades may be perfect for you!

Check out these videos from ABC of WI where they interview our apprentices and talk about why they chose the trades!
Our apprentices are AMAZING! Each year, top apprentices participate in ABC of WI’s SkillComp, a competition that combines a two-hour written exam and a four-hour hands-on practical exam. This year (2023) DJ had six apprentices competing in their field of Plumbing or Electrical. We’re proud to share that two of our team members placed in the top three! Congratulations Alex R. (first place), and Jason T. (second place) in Plumbing. Alex will go on to represent WI in the National Craft Championships in Orlando, FL, in March!
